"Sunset Beach"

My memory of you is the imprint in the sand
A footstep to get there
And the ocean washes it away
I see a picture of you
Did I love you?
The doctor said my brain was dead
But I almost remember you in my head
A full-bellied laugh still echoes in my ear
How I wish you were here
When you left for the sunset,
You wrote me:
I love you I will be gone but always remember
Your name is smudged at the end.
I don’t! I can’t!
Your name
The laughter in my ear subsides
And I whisper to it
“Don’t worry
I’ll walk in the sunset with you soon.”
